Love this Adrienne and couldn’t agree more! I took a permanent vacation from my Instagram page for children’s play formats and never looked back! I’m so much happier now!
It doesn’t matter if the work is ever seen, what matters is that it occurs at all. ❤️
I appreciated this perspective of your writing/blogging/online journey--we've reached the same conclusions with a bit of variation; your viewpoint as a younger writer navigating all the online 'requirements' to be seen and heard was eye-opening and affirming. Thank you for this echo of a message I've been writing about (and listening to) for nearly a year--keep singing that song!
Beautiful, Adrienne! Will be thinking about these words. And YES to the good things-and happenstance meetings!-that came from growing up alongside the internet :)
I love this. Thank you. I keep getting caught up in wanting to/feeling like I *must* hustle, and then quickly getting exhausted and disenchanted. I really want to write, and I love being read. But I can’t keep up with the world’s pace and I’m trying to be okay with that.
Yes! Whenever I feel low about not having "enough" subscribers, I think about the emails my dad sends me each time I post a poem. He's a writer too, and his emails are a mix of praise, pondering word choices, and sharing quotes or other poems that came to mind when he read my poem.
This is simply encouraging and so formative for me, as a mother, creative, and child of the King. I appreciate your vulnerability and ability to speak so much truth into my life by sharing your story!
Adrienne, I really enjoyed your honesty and related to your journey through the internet in many ways. You are not alone in trying to bare your authentic self and stay true to your craft, while also pursuing a writing life that is sustainable.
"The most fitting definition I’ve read of millennials is to have come of age alongside the internet, to have formed our corporeal and digital identities simultaneously." -- This is a helpful distinction for me. Thank you.
I'm struck by the parallel between the "real farm" concept you wrote about a few weeks ago and this notion of being a "real writer." I know I can always count on you to be real, Stacy, in the best of ways.
I love this, and I want to hug you where the hurt and discouragement were at times. You spoke for me in many ways here...my guess is many others too. In case you needed to hear it, your newsletter emails always touched me, this mom, right here. Keep writing, no matter how it looks.
I made this full screen and listened to your voice read your words as I read. There is no better offering than your human, beating heart self!
The writing life is so much less lonely with you as a friend!

Feel so much of this in my bones! Thanks for sharing these thoughts and for striving forward
Yes! Thank you, Kaitlin! Onward!

I'm still pinching myself. That was a meet-cute if ever there was one!

The right readers will find us, right? At least half of art is magic, and so I keep believing. :)

“Worthy, nonetheless”

Bless our little hearts, right? ;)
ha!
Seriously, I find this enlightening and fascinating and truly helpful.
All the slow claps, Adrienne! I loved all of this. So relatable. And timely for me right now. 💛

So true!
“A risk I’m willing to take” ❤️ — grateful for you.
Oh Adrienne. Thank you. Needed to read these words and reflect on how I’ve come along and grown up with the internet.
